Datagroup size and performance

What is an reasonable limit for datagroup entries (single-column) before performance is affected? I am deploying an iRule for a high volume web site that references a datagroup. Currently the datagroup has a very few entries, but potentially could have a large number.

    We have a GTM configured with a datagroup containing thousands of entries referenced by an iRule and executed about a hundred times per second, and we have no performance issues whatsoever. We're doing this on a 6900.

    I had tried with 1000s of entries and it add a sub millisecond with heavy load. When I tried with 10k DGL above 70% saw few ms latency. My requirement was less than 1000 so was happy didnt push further.
