correlation ID generated by an iRule

Can a correlation ID be generated by an iRule? Our apps folks are asking us to tag, via the F5, every incoming request with a unique identifier to have that identifier passed down through all the tiers, tomcat, service, cebs etc. Can this be accomplished with an iRule and does anyone have an example? Thanks in advance.

    We did something similar for a customer's HTTP/S traffic using an iRule like the ones in these posts:

      This might be a longshot, but would you still happen to have either of the irules you mentioned? Both links are now broken. We have a customer with the same request.
