copy exisitng LTM config to new LTM

Hi,

I should install a brand new BIG-IP LTM system in the network. This LTM should have the exact configuration as an exisitng one, same model. I'm not sure yet if we would keep the same code on it. Let's just assume for now it should. Currently the LTM device is having the code 10.2.1 Build 511.0 Hotfix HF3. - What is the best/easiest way to copy ALL configuration from the old LTM to the new one ? - In case we would decide to put a more recent code on it, would that have much impact in copying the exisitng config to the new LTM ?

Thanks for all the advice,

Kind regards, Frederik

Frederik, Do a backup on the existing box, fire up the new one and configure the basics so you can manage it and then restore the config. As long as the hostname is the same on both then it will restore all the config.

    Hope this helps, N

Frederik, Also, before restoring the archive on the new box i'd probably create an archive on the new one, once I'd done the initial config, licence etc. Just in case a restore of the backup archive goes wrong. As for if you restore onto newer code see this note from askf5:

•F5 recommends that you run the same version of the BIG-IP software on the BIG-IP system from which it was backed up. However, you can restore a BIG-IP 10.x UCS archive on a system running BIG-IP 11.x software.
  • just in case you have not yet noticed. there is rma option when restoring configuration.

    root@ve10(Active)(tmos) load sys ucs config.ucs ?
    Options:
rma Load full configuration from a UCS file except license file. This
command mostly is for RMA use.

if there is any issue after restoring, loading configuration (e.g. tmsh load sys config) would show what wrong is. then you should be able to fix it one by one.

I have not noticed that before, and very much wish I had. Thanks Nitass!
