NimbostratusClose wait and Fin wait time value.
Hi everyone,
Just want to ask if there is a prod. impact if I change default value of CLOSE and FIN into a higher value.

Do you mind if I ask why? Also please note there's no such thing as FIN_WAIT...do you mean TIME_WAIT?

FIN_WAIT and TIME_WAIT are two different things, though they are similar. FIN_WAIT happens when an endpoint initiates closing the connection with a FIN. TIME_WAIT is the time to wait after the connection has been closed.
Brad_Parker_139If you increase Close Wait you are increasing the amount of time the connection stays in LAST_ACK. i.e. the time you wait for an ACK after you have sent a FIN. Why would you want to wait longer?
If you increase FIN WAIT you are increasing the amount of time the connection stays in the FIN_WAIT state before before closing. The time the server waits after receiving the ACK from the FIN that was sent. Why would you want to wait longer?

Hi All,
Appreciate your answer, Uhm question when do I need to use this close wait setting and Fin wait setting? I did to increase this couz when Im reviewing the packet capture my client sends a RST ACK.
