Checking Logs in LTM

Hello All, Can someone guide me where i find ALL the logs (Power failure,Vserver down, Monitor Down/UP, SSL Card failure etc...) in F5 LTM Box.

Hello,

You'll find the log files in

/var/log

folder. Two main files worth checking are

/var/log/ltm

and

/var/log/tmm

. Use the Linux program "less" in combination with "grep" (line-search functions) to work with the log files. By default, those log files cover a 1 week period. This can be modified. The log files from previous days have the file extension ".gz", you don't have to unpack them, the "less" program can read those too.

Thanks Hanees, Few queries here 1. Can I get all kind of logs under /var/log 2. what is the differece between /var/log/ltm & /var/log/tmm 3. Way to use the Linux program "less". Any example

1. Yes, this folder and subfolders in it contain all the log files. There are no other places you need to know about. 2. /var/log/ltm reports all the operational LTM events, such as Pool UP/DOWN but also hardware issues such as symptoms of system overheating, or hard drive errors. /var/log/tmm reports microkernel events such as global system crashes and the file is usually empty. If your system crashes due to a tmm error, it's quite likely the root cause will be logged here. 3. e.g. "less /var/log/ltm".
