NimbostratusCan't get generic host to come up on GTM
Hi,
I'm trying to add a generic host (Ubuntu machine running a web server) to my GTM
I can add it all in fine, but the GTM never marks the generic host as Up.
From the GTM I can ping and telnet to port 80 on the Ubuntu, so I know there is network connectivity.
The process I followed was:
- Created the Servers
- Created the Virtual Server (Same IP as Server)
- Add Virtual server to pool
- Add the server to DC
- Add the pool to a new wideIP
I'm just using a generic ICMP monitor but it always has the red diamond next to the server.
Like i said, I can ping this server from the GTM command line.
For generic hosts, is it OK for virtual server to have the same IP as the server?
There is no translation, so I have left all the translation settings as blank.
Any thoughts here?

It's a late response, I guess, but I figured someone else could benefit from it anyways.
When talking about a Generic Host, yes, it's OK and even usual for a Virtual Server to have the same IP as the Server object itself.
Why the red diamond? Keep in mind that your GTM device(s) might not be the one(s) monitoring your server at a given time. GTM can delegate the monitoring of Generic Hosts to other BIG-IP devices.
SOL15408 gives a very good overview of the process. Then, you might want to create a Prober Pool to monitor your Generic Host.

My server only listens on port 2002, so I have configured it as generic host on the GTM with TCP as health monitor, and added the same IP Address on the Virtual side of it [correct?]. On "Service Port" shall I type in explicitly "2002"?
