Can the machine certificate checker service be installed without edge client software

We are using the machine cert auth to be able to provide resources per client. We don't need the edge client software but it is needed to be installed for the machine cert checker service to be on the services. Can we download and install the machine cert checker service only without the edge client? Or is there any installed for the checker service only?
