Jul 26, 2007BigIP failover and advertising routes
I've had a couple of queries lately about setting up an HA pair of BigIPs in different sites. I have no problem with extending the front-end and back-end networks between the two sites. However, if the primary site goes down, I will need the standby site/BigIP to advertise a new route to the site.
i.e. the primary box, bigipA, is normally accessible through routerA, if bigipA or related infrastructure fails, bigipB becoms active, and routing to it is through routerB.
I have been told this involves running BGP on the BigIP, and that the "b virtual address route advertisement enable" command is required.
Can anyone give me any more specific information, or direct me to where I can find it?

- Deb_Allen_18Historic F5 AccountYou would need to license the Advanced Routing Module on LTM to get BGP and selective route advertisement capabiltity on LTM.
Once you have the feature licensed, the command you need will be available.

Thanks Deb. I'm not sure that licensing the product before designing a solution is the way to go.
Fortunately, I see the 9.3 and 9.4 System Management guides now include a chapter on the configuration and operation of the routing modules. - Deb_Allen_18Historic F5 AccountSorry for the confusion -- didn't realize I had the cart before the horse.
Licensing the ARM is the only way to get the functionality you describe, and from the way you asked the question, I thought you were trying to figure out why the command you needed wasn't available.
