BigIP F5 Coredumps 11.3 Issues
Hello Everyone:
I am new to BigIP F5 loadbalancer. I recently started experiencing core dumps only on standby unit which is version 11.3 hotfix 3. both active and standby are in sync.
This is what I see in logs
/var/log/tmm
<13> Dec 3 1:51:18 hostname notice hsb0: pde dma stopped
<13> Dec 3 1:51:18 hostname notice detach hsb_lbb0.
/var/log/daemon
Dec 3 1:51:42 hostname logger: Re-starting tmm
Dec 3 1:51:42 hostname logger: Re-starting tmm1
Dec 3 1:51:42 hostname logger: Re-starting tmm2
Dec 3 1:51:42 hostname logger: Re-starting tmm3
I searched and opened the case with f5 and per the following article/f5 the solution is to upgrade to atleast to Hotfix 5 because of the following.
SOL14398: TMM may core when processing connections for FastL4 virtual servers with a source address affinity persistence profile
http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/14000/300/sol14398.html
This is interesting as it is only happening on standby unit while active F5 which is heavy on processing traffic has not had any issues.
Does any one know any quick fixes or actual reasons beside the one mentioned in SOL14398? Why is it only happening on standby when active is processing traffic normally without any core dumps?
I will open another thread on how to effectively apply Hotfix.
Thank you Kindly

If you have mirroring configured perhaps that's the cause?

yes we do have HA if that is what you mean by mirroring
- HA doesn't mean mirror persé. check your config, did you actively enable mirroring? turned on on virtual server? if you don't like the answer from support just ask them to explain it, do you have FastL4 virtual server with source addr affinity? if not ill challenge the reply from support, no reason to upgrade if they dont give a clear / correct reason.
I noticed some raid error, is raid working fine and disk ok. Do you see any DRY error in kern.log
You might want to follow article: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/12000/700/sol12756.html
see if that helps.
Do you see any cores: ls -al /var/core
Had you reactivated license prior upgrade
Thanks.
if core dumps are involved contact support, they are the ones to handle that.
