Big-IQ service catalog vs. AS3 support

Does anyone have experience using the service catalog in Big-IQ? Does it make sense to start using this now that Big-IQ 6.1 now supports AS3 declarations? It seems like F5 is encouraging users to switch to AS3 instead of the Service Catalog. Does anyone know if F5 will have long-term support for the service-catalog or if it will be phased out in favor of AS3?
