Apr 27, 2009Big-IP LC 4.5.14 / 9.4.6 Failover Partner
I am running a Big-IP Link Controller 4.5.14 that needs to be replacing with a F5 Big-IP Link Controller 9.4.6.
Has anybody ever setup a F5 LC 9.4.6 as a failover partner with a F5 LC 4.5.14?
I understand that I cannot copy the configuration between the LCs.
I want to failover the F5 LC 4.5.14 to implement the new F5 LC 9.4.6; if problems arise I can fail back.
Any thoughts?
Thanks …

As Denny recently pointed out in a similar post (Click here), this probably isn't possible because the state sync'ing has changed between the versions.
I wonder if you used hardwire failover and didn't try to sync the config, whether the second unit would stay in standby. As (I think) the failover is based on a voltage on the wire, it might work.

The voltage might get the other unit to stay standby, I haven't tried that. When you are swapping out boxes though, all it takes to fail back is to disconnect the cables from the new box, reconnect them to the old box, and clear arp on the switch/router, so being without a secondary unit for a few minutes during a maintenance window doesn't seem like a big issue to me.
