BIG-IP Bandwidth Calculation

Hello,

Please, could someone clarify what is the real licensed bandwidth? In which direction is calculated? Is it a sum of "In" and "Out" throughput. I have BIG-IP VE 11.6, BB on 25M. Additional Questions: 1. Why in “Throughput” Section “Platform Limit” and “License Limit” are with “none” values? It should be limited to 25M… 2. How the throughput is calculated? In + Out <= 25M or In <= 25M and Out <= 25M?

Regards

  • i think platform limit none may be correct (because it is ve). for license limit, it is a bug.

ID369541 - Dashboard: License limit is always "none"

about throughput, i understand both ingress and egress are counted. by the way, you know the limit is divided by numebr of tmms, don't you?

  • Hello Nitaas,

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I know that the traffic is divided by the number of TMMs, but it is still not clear for me how it is processed in reality. I received an official statement that If we have 25M license, it would be counted 25M per direction. Based on all information I have/understand, I could say the following throughput conclusion. If we have Big-IP on 25M with 4 CPU cores and 120 active user sessions the traffic throughput would be counted in this way:

25M/4 = 6.25 Mbit/s per TMM (Core) in both directions.

    120 user sessions/4 = 30 user sessions per TMM.

So per one TMM will pass 30 user session with max flow of 6.25 Mbit/s. (less than 6.25Mbit/s – with 200M license and 2 cores you get 90Mbits/s per TMM https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/15000/800/sol15831.html) So everything above this TMM limit would be dropped. Please, could you confirm the above and advise?

    Regards,
