BIG-IP : simulate Sync-Failover Device-Group on a single device
F5 BIG-IP Virtual Edition v11.4.1 (Build 635.0) LTM on ESXi
With only a single BIG-IP instance available, is it possible to simulate a Sync-Failover Device-Group ?
So, first create a dummy device. Then create a Sync-Failover Device-Group with members Self plus the dummy.
I'm wondering how this will behave in response to sync commands - is it an adequate simulation ?

No. Get a second instance.

Note that you can configure it. i.e. you can create a device group with 1 member (No dummy, that just causes issues when it's not able to be contacted to do the initial sync), traffic groups etc.
But without the second device, there's no syncing actually happening... The best you could say is that the config is there for a system with a device group... but as that's pretty much identical to a normal config, you're bit buying yourself much.
IMO, it's perhaps would be better to spend the extra US$100 to get a Lab VE (For test purposes you should be fine, assuming you're using a recent enough version of BigIP) to cluster with it...
