basic network configuration problem

hi i'm tring big ip ltm ve trial in esx 5.5 but i having a problem with assiging ip adresess i have setup 2 vlans external and internal, assigned ip adresses to them marked untagged interfaces for vlans

 

but still unable to access ltm via this ips

 

for example i have disabled all iptables and on external network a have a clinet with some ip when this client tries to ping ltm there is no answer however using tcpdump i can see arp request on ltm on external interface

 

what is wrong ?

  • Is it simply that ICMP echo is not enabled by default on virtual addresses?

     

    Best I think to set up your nodes and pools with monitors, as you'll need them, and see if the F5 is generating the traffic you expect. e.g. get something working above ICMP and ARP level.

     

  • If I may add, if you can see the ARP requests, but the F5 doesn't respond to ping, it's very likely that you have your interfaces wired backwards. Try switching the interfaces in the VLAN configs.
