Bandwidth Control

Question

Dear Experts,&nbsp;
I would like to know if it is possible to configure the bandwidth control &amp; Rate Shaping feature only with the LTM license on F5 appliance or do I need to have the AAM license as well? 
My other qs is that the bandwidth control feature when applied on the VS is applicable on the complete traffic or with the combination of Connection rate limit mode it can be applied on the available option in the Connection Rate Limit mode.&nbsp;

You must pick one as you  cannot use rate shaping and bandwidth controller policies together. Nevertheless, there's no need to, as Bandwidth controller is the advanced version of rate shaping feature. Neither is available in stock BigIP LTM configuration, unfortunately.&nbsp;
How sophisticated bandwidth control you require? Bandwidth control can be implemented in LTM iRules but it will not be pretty. With PEM AddOn license, you will get access to Bandwidth Controller policies. That would be my 1st choice. Makes it easier to implement and manage. PEM AddOn license cost varies, you're charged more the more powerful your hardware is. Bandwidth controller policies are also included in AAM. Newer appliances with "Best" license bundle should include AAM. Not sure how well the price of AAM AddOn compares against PEM AddOn - if both are more or less equal, AAM is probably a better option as it appears to include more features. An alternative to PEM is going with rate shaping AddOn module (F5-ADD-BIG-RS). This module is likely to cover your needs as well. Thanks Hannes that's a good insight I was looking for but do we have the bandwidth control good enough to manage the bandwidth based on particular Network or host and also on a specific protocol type? What will the monitoring offer in terms of showing the utilization of bandwidth over multiple links as per the defined policy?&nbsp;

Bandwidth control features you mentioned are included. Monitoring features such as alerting via Syslog/Email/SNMP are there. BigIP management GUI is equipped with dashboard/graphs. Get in contact with your local F5 reseller. Explain that you want to test Bandwidth Controller policies (and possibly Rate shaping to compare?) in your environment. They can get you a free 30 or 45 day evaluation license.&nbsp;
