13.1.1 upgrade on Lab F5
I am preparing to upgrade our F5s and the recommended version is 13.1.1 from 12.1.1.1.0.196. I generally upgrade my test set, which has a lab license, first so that I know what I might run into. I imported 13.1.1 and checked with the MD5 but when I install into Vol 2, I get a Failed message. I looked in the log and I am getting:
info: Applying UCS /var/tmp/lsD65KX1dS.ucs to disk sda, location 2 (/mnt/tm_install/12238.l4FaeM). info: >++++ result: info: cp: writing `/mnt/tm_install/12238.l4FaeM/var/local/ucs/config.ucs': No space left on device
So I am curious if anyone has had issues installing 13.1.1 on a LAB licensed VE. I also tried 13.0.0.

Hi Jim.
Which steps do you follow to do the upgrade?
I typically do the following:
- Create archive before any config changes.
-
Disable all syncs, and auto failover, free up disk space.I do not sync from this point onwards until all servers are updated and confirmed working.
-
Verify config on all partitions are healthy.
- Record connection numbers for reference point, no need if you have AVR.
- Re-license.
- Check md5 of iso.
- Run install to a new partition.
- Do step 5, and confirm traffic flows without any drops or problems. Compare connection numbers
- Enable syncs and failover methods.
- Do step 1.
- Smile.
- Done.

Karl: My steps are nearly identical to yours except that I dont worry that much on my test set because most of the time there are no configs or connections on it. The other thing is that I am not sure how to free up disk space. I'm not sure what is okay to free up and what is not. I have removed all the old images and hotfix's.
Pete and Hank: I agree. It is a space issue but I have cleaned off the old ISOs and hotfix's and I still get the error. I'm wondering if a lab license is able to host a 13.x image? Is there a trick to re-partitioning so the 13.x image will load?

Once you cleanup the image files and hotfixes, perform mcpd reload and then rebot the device.
please verify /var/local/ucs folder and see any old UCS files are available, if yes remove them.
Please give output of df -kh.

There is only one file in the /var/local/ucs folder and its config.ucs, its 249,428 KB. Below is the output of df -kh

Your /var partition and /usr partition is having very less space. You need to cleanup the files or increase the space for those partitions
