28 TopicsiHealth Upgrade Advisor: Making upgrades a little easier
Whether it is upgrading the firmware on a switch, the OS on a server, an important business application or the software on a BIG-IP, performing upgrades is something that makes almost all IT Admins and Network Engineers nervous. We’ve learned from (sometimes painful) experience that things don’t always go as planned. Good preparation greatly increases the likelihood that an upgrade will be successful, which is why F5 has created the iHealth Upgrade Advisor. Its goal is to provide an additional service from F5 that will complement your existing upgrade preparations, increasing the predictability of the upgrade while reducing your upgrade time. The iHealth Upgrade Advisor service provides a way for users to gain insight into potential issues with a BIG-IP upgrade before they attempt the upgrade. It provides guidance that is specific to a BIG-IP based on its configuration, the version of software it is currently running and the version you are planning to upgrade to. When an issue can be avoided by making a configuration change prior to upgrading, the Upgrade Advisor will tell you exactly what to change. For some issues, it will list the corrective actions to take after the upgrade. Demo Video This short video demonstrating the Upgrade Advisor shows you how to use it and some examples of the guidance it provides. Accessing the Upgrade Advisor The next time you are preparing to upgrade a BIG-IP, login to ihealth.f5.com, upload a .qkview file from that BIG-IP and then view the qkview after iHealth has analyzed it. The Upgrade Advisor can be accessed by clicking on its tab in the left-hand menu. Simply select the version of BIG-IP you are planning to upgrade to in the advisor and review the results. Here is a screenshot of the Upgrade Advisor: Give it a Try Try out the F5 upgrade Advisor today and let us know what you think using the feedback option (circled in red on the right side of the screenshot above).4KViews1like8CommentsError when downloading from downloads.f5.com

Hey DevCentral, I am able to push base code upgrades in BIG-IQ 5.0, but it appears I am unable to install a fresh copy of the base code and then the hotfix on top of it, as if you were doing it one by one. I cannot seem to find any articles on it. Am I missing something or is this not available in 5.0?Solved702Views0likes4CommentsUpgrade/Downgrade BIG-IP VE (lab license)
I'm finding differing information on upgrading/downgrading BIG-IP VE and would like to confirm the process. I have a lab license and would like to be able to switch between versions (11.2, 12.x - 13) to be able to lab new configurations as well as legacy configs and exercises around certification. Before doing so I wanted to be sure that this could be done simply performing normal upgrade/downgrade procedures (install new version on partition and boot into it). I understand that re-configuration may be required when switching between versions and that will not be a problem. This link references v13 and notes that the VM does not need to be re-installed, just perform a normal update (download image, install image, boot into new partition) This link for Hyper-V and v12 indicates that when upgrading to v12.1 the VM should be re-installed and Support contacted to transfer the license. This link also for Hyper-V and for older versions (10.2 - 11.1) lists a more involved process. It may not be applicable due to being for an older version. The answer may simply be use the normal upgrade process. However given that some references appear to indicate that the VM should be re-installed when moving between certain versions, I'd like to be sure that I do this 'properly' to ensure the final system is stable and accounts for any changes between versions (maybe larger disks were provisioned or something...). My environment is VMWare ESXi, in case the above refs were strictly related to HyperV environments.542Views0likes1Commentfailed (RPM transaction failure.) installing 12.1.0 HF1
Hey DevCentral, I'm working on upgrading from 12.0.0 to 12.1.0 HF1. Part one, installing the base OS 12.1.0 goes fine, but when I go to install HF1, it continuously gets an RPM Transaction Failure. I have retried this four times now, rebooting the device after each and reuploading the ISO. I'm not quite sure what it means, and I can't find much information about it online. Any help as to learning what happened and how to overcome it would be appreciated. Thank you!443Views0likes5CommentsUpgrading from 11.6 to 12.1
There are several features available at the 12.x version of code that are pushing us to upgrade. I have not seen anything in the release notes that say upgrading from 11.6 directly to 12.1 (bypassing 12.0) is unsupported. Has anyone tried this? If so, what issues have you encountered?
