28 TopicsiHealth Upgrade Advisor: Making upgrades a little easier
Whether it is upgrading the firmware on a switch, the OS on a server, an important business application or the software on a BIG-IP, performing upgrades is something that makes almost all IT Admins and Network Engineers nervous. We’ve learned from (sometimes painful) experience that things don’t always go as planned. Good preparation greatly increases the likelihood that an upgrade will be successful, which is why F5 has created the iHealth Upgrade Advisor. Its goal is to provide an additional service from F5 that will complement your existing upgrade preparations, increasing the predictability of the upgrade while reducing your upgrade time. The iHealth Upgrade Advisor service provides a way for users to gain insight into potential issues with a BIG-IP upgrade before they attempt the upgrade. It provides guidance that is specific to a BIG-IP based on its configuration, the version of software it is currently running and the version you are planning to upgrade to. When an issue can be avoided by making a configuration change prior to upgrading, the Upgrade Advisor will tell you exactly what to change. For some issues, it will list the corrective actions to take after the upgrade. Demo Video This short video demonstrating the Upgrade Advisor shows you how to use it and some examples of the guidance it provides. Accessing the Upgrade Advisor The next time you are preparing to upgrade a BIG-IP, login to ihealth.f5.com, upload a .qkview file from that BIG-IP and then view the qkview after iHealth has analyzed it. The Upgrade Advisor can be accessed by clicking on its tab in the left-hand menu. Simply select the version of BIG-IP you are planning to upgrade to in the advisor and review the results. Here is a screenshot of the Upgrade Advisor: Give it a Try Try out the F5 upgrade Advisor today and let us know what you think using the feedback option (circled in red on the right side of the screenshot above).4KViews1like8CommentsError Message when installing 13.0HF3
This isn't a question, just a solution/FYI because I couldn't find this issue when searching DevCentral for (Failure testing installer update status in /shared/images/) on VCMP. I ran into an issue when attempting to upgrade from 13.0HF2 to 13.0HF3 on my vCMP guest. The 13.0 ISO installed correctly to an empty boot location. However, I got an error message when I attempted to install Hotfix3 on that same partition. There's a bug ID for this (665725) and no fix yet, but the workaround is to restart the lind process on the guest. [notmylogin@notmyguestname-f5-prod:/S1-green-P:ForcedOffline:Disconnected] ~ clsh bigstart restart lind This allowed me to continue the software installation without issue. Hope that helps.291Views0likes1CommentEditing 9.x scf
Hi, I am trying to import scf from 9.4.8 396.1 (from BIG-IP 1600) into VE 10.2.4 577.0. It always fails with message: Saving configuration to /var/local/scf/.backup-0.scf. Reading configuration from /config/low_profile_base.conf. Reading configuration from /defaults/config_base.conf. Reading configuration from /usr/share/monitors/base_monitors.conf. Reading configuration from /config/profile_base.conf. Reading configuration from /config/daemon.conf. Reading configuration from /shared/configi/lb1_mod_10_x_01.scf. Renaming /var/local/scf/.backup-0.scf to /var/local/scf/backup.scf. Loading the configuration ... BIGpipe unknown operation error: 01071009:3: No provisioned objects found. When searching for both 01071009:3: or No provisioned objects found. I only found SOL12204 but seems to be irrelevant as there is already entry: provision ltm { level nominal } in bigip_sys.conf So I started to wonder if it's at all supported to remove any entries from scf file? I am not saying about entries other objects depend on but some looking like standalone: shell write partition Common ntp { servers 1.1.1.1 timezone "Europe/Warsaw" } Maybe this is the reason? If it's possible to remove parts of scf then how to debug what is reason for this error? Piotr312Views0likes6CommentsError when downloading from downloads.f5.com
I was given a task to update our F5 Viprion's software version this weekend. However, upon checking for the latest software version on F5's downloads website, I came across an error which is: Export Compliance Check - Failure All downloadable files are presented with this error when I tried to download.1.2KViews0likes10CommentsBIG - IP LTM License - upgrade options
Hello, I have some questions regarding to the BIG-IP LTM license and upgrade possibilities. 1) How can I determine what kind of license I have? The License tab says only LTM 25M, Perpetual; I would like to know the license code (whether it is F5-BIG-LTM-VE-25MV12 or F5-BIG-LTM-VE-25MV13), is it possible to check? 2) Based on the license type, how can I know what kind of upgrade path are possible for me? If I have (for example) F5-BIG-LTM-VE-25MV12, does it allow me to upgrade up to 12.x releases? Thank you in advance.320Views0likes1Comment
