Hello Folks, I am trying to setup SNMPv3 on F5. Running on BIG-IP version 12.1.2 Command Used for TRAP generation logger -p local0.notice "01070640:5: Node 1.2.3.4 TEST monitor status down." Whenever i generate trap and take tcpdump, i get something as below : tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on 0.0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 20:06:02.741472 IP 20.30.40.50.43931 > 60.70.80.90.10.162: F=ap U=DD [!scoped PDU] But not receiving any traps at the destination server. Same setup when i use with SNMPv2, works fine without any issue. Any recommendations ?217Views0likes0CommentsREST versus SNMP traps
SNMPv3 is default for alarming on F5 faults or exceeded thresholds with my company. Since SNMP depends on agentX the work on SNMP trap alarming is not that easy to configure on many F5 objects or performance metrics. I am thinking about REST method because Event Management station that we are using supports REST. Any opinion on this or similar approach?264Views0likes1CommentSNMP traps sent only in v2c, not in v3
Hi I have this setup: BIG-IP v12.0.0, 1x SNMP Traps destination for version 2c, 1x SNMP Traps destination for version 3. My BIG-IP does not send traps in version 3. Version 2c traps are sent only. I captured packets by tcpdump and there are only packets for version 2c. I did not make any modification of /etc/alertd/alert.conf nor /config/user_alert.conf Have you please any advice what's wrong?329Views0likes2CommentsSNMP v3 Problems in conjunction with CA Spectrum
Hello guys, We are actually experiencing some “connection” problems with some F5 LTM’s on our monitoring system (CA Spectrum). The LTMs are modeled in the monitoring system and are monitored via icmp/snmpv3. The LTMs are running in HA Mode and the problems only occurs between the HA partners. Sometimes Spectrum loses the connection to the “Management Agent” of a device which is in CA speech a not working SNMP connection. In other cases (and other devices types) this usually had something to do with the SNMP EngineID which was by accident or whatever identical. In these cases we edited one EngineID and reset the device in Spectrum and everything was fine. But on the LTMs it looks a bit more complicated. They’re running fine for a while and suddenly Spectrum loses the connection to the management agent. I reset the settings in spectrum and it will work again for some time. I have checked the SNMP Settings on the LTM`s twice, done everything like this SOL6821 says and I also checked the EngineID s that are used by/in spectrum and they are different… like it should. What I noticed is that this always happens when I sync the devices over the GUI with a check on “overwrite configuration”. Is there any connection between the sync processes of HA devices and the snmp agents? Has somebody made experience with similar problems?
