Client SSL Profile

I have read the article K14783: Overview of the Client SSL profile (11.x - 17.x) and I am trying to find a good way to explain the chain option in the certificate key chain settings.  If I send the intermediate CA cert the client would see the intermediate CA that signed the server certificate and what Root CA signed intermediate CA cert then the client should be able to establish a trust if the client has the Root CA in the client store.

Wondering if someone has website that can offer up details on why sending the intermediate CA certs could be beneficial.
