Why bigip don´t show me the logs

Hi guys,

I´m Luis from Mexico, i configure an iRule that constains the command log.local then when i login to the bigip via CLI and try to view the logs that the iRule generate in tail -f /var/log/ltm, i don´t see anything. i don´t know why the bigip don´t show me logs. Need to configure something like syslogserver to locahost server or what should i? Can you help me please.

  • Are you logging using log local0. "message"? If so this would be written to /var/local/ltm by default.

Or are you using a custom syslog-ng configuration which sends the syslog messages to a remote server?

You might try opening a case with F5 Support on this. It should be a pretty quick diagnosis once they review a tech.out from the unit.

  • Yes i logging using log local0 "messages". But the logs don´t show it in Bigip via CLI.
  • I'm pretty sure the period after the local0 string is important. Make sure your log statement looks like hoolio noted:

    log local0. "message"

I look for the message in /var/log/ltm.
