You can buy license for APM if you want your applications to get authenticated from F5 and not from backend server. Like with LTM, you can offload SSL, in the same way, with APM, you can offload authentication

APM is the Access Policy Manager, you do not need it for the WAF function (ASM Application Security Manager)
