When does /config/filestore/.trash_bin_d get cleaned up?

My UCS file gets bigger and bigger and I have found that /config/filestore/.trash_bin_d contains lots gargabe, years old. There does not seem to be an automatic machanism to clean it up. I wonder if it's safe to "rm" the stuff in there?
