vCMP host setup

Hi, This is my first attempt at working with vCMP using a pair of 5200v devices. I've created the vCMP host and three guests. I configured an outside, inside and sync vlan/trunk/IP address on the vCMP host and assigned them to the LTM guest. Now I'm in the LTM guest I can see these vlans and trunks but they are not together and if I add the vlans to the trunk from within the LTM host I get an error saying vlan_member was not found eventhough it's listed under the Vlans tab. It looks like the Vlan is not associated to the trunk.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any good documentation configuring virtual hosts would also be greatly appreciated I'm having trouble finding anything directly related to virtual host configuration.

Thanks in advance.

  • what do you mean with "but they are not together"? the basics are here: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/vcmp-viprion-configuration-11-2-0/3.html but in general there is not a whole much to this config.
  • On our vCMP guests the interfaces/VLANs show up wrong, while the configuration is actually there, the GUI doesn't match what is configured what's on the host, everything works fine though. have you tried creating a self-ip on one of the VLANs on the guest and seeing if it has connectivity? Cheers

"I configured an outside, inside and sync vlan/trunk/IP address on the vCMP host and assigned them to the LTM guest" - you only need to configure a trunk and vlans on the vCMP host, and assign the VLANs to the vCMP guest as you mention. Then, on the vCMP guest you simply assign a self IP address to the VLANs, no need to check VLAN or Interface configurations.
  • Thanks for all the feedback. I think I have the int/trunk/vlan setup figured out now. I was having problems getting the two guests to sync. The problems appears to be due to me using a unique username/password for sync and only applying it to one device. Anyway it's all working now. Thanks again everyone for your help.
