Upgrading software fails to boot into upgraded Boot Location (4200s)
Hi there, I've had a quick look and couldn't find an answer to this so here goes...
We have a pair of 4200's that need to be upgraded, currently they are running 11.3.0 (3117.0) HF5 and I have tried (and failed) to upgrade to 11.6.0 (3.0.412) HF3
I believe I have followed the instructions and managed to prepare the devices correctly (ie failed over the active traffic and have the new images installed), however when I reboot the device into the new boot location, the device fails to get past "rebooting". If I start a browser session from another PC, the GUI is no longer accessible.
On trying this we have had no downtime to services so the failover part is fine, the only way of getting the upgraded box back is via TMSH and getting it to boot back to the older working partition (also tried from here to get it to boot to new partition without success).
Is there an upgrade path? That is, should I upgrade it to a certain version before going to the latest?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
Regards, Mark

Mark - you can certainly go from 11.3.0 to 11.6.0. It sounds like the upgraded box processes traffic ok but just access to the GUI is failing?
If so have you checked the following log files:
/var/log/httpd/httpd_errors
/var/log/tomcat/catalina.out
Hope this helps,
N

Nathan, thanks for the quick reply.
I know this is probably a daft question but I'm going to ask it anyway, are these logs accessible while I have it booted into the working (older) partition or will I have to get it to fail the upgrade again?

im afraid the log files will be in the failed upgrade volume.

I thought I would update my post as I managed to get on a little further with this upgrade.
Decided to try upgrading to 11.5 (HF4) and report back on any errors if it failed, it never; it worked first time. So we are currently running on that at the moment, I'll try upgrading to 11.6 next.
Thanks for your input N, appreciated.

No probs. Good luck with the upgrade to 11.6. Prob best to have a console session open when you do it so you can see any errors live.
