Oct 03, 2012Uneven load balancing with CAS servers
Unven load balancing with CAS servers as third party applications like blackberry, enterprise vault are winding up on the same server due to persisitence. Anyone dedicating CAS servers for third party applications.

Hi Lavanya,
We had this problem when our Exchange 2010 org was in its infancy, it kind of worked itself out when we grew the number of BES servers. We researched dedicated CAS' for remote powershell, BES and other applications. Most applications will want to use the CAS you've got configured on the user's database (in our case, the CAS Array). Our plan, which we have yet to implement, is to stand up some "dedicated" CASs loadbalanced by a VIP living on the internal IP space (like we do with the CAS Array) and add a hosts file entry to the blackberry enterprise servers for the CAS Array name. I tested this in our DEV environment and had positive results.
We also talked to RIM at the time they had no plan to change the way their application communicated with Exchange. This is going to have to change with Exchange 2013, though, so maybe some of these applications will wise up and use EWS to get what they need. I'd be more than happy to discuss further if you'd like.
John
