Unable to Access BIG-IP 11.3.0 via GUI/SSH and Console

Hi Team F5,

Can you help me on this.

I forgot my password, that's why I cannot access my Big-IP 10000.

some reference coming from devcentral:

Here are the troubleshooting we do:

1, https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/14000/600/sol14662.html?sr=33545762%20[2] until Ctr-X

sh-3.2 sh-3.2 sh-3.2 sh-3.2 tmsh Cannot connect to mcpd Cannot connect to mcpd. Your preferences and aliases will not be available until it comes back up. s) modify auth password admintatus

The connection to mcpd has been lost, try again. s) modify auth password root The connection to mcpd has been lost, try again. s) @(hostname unknown)(sync status unknown)(system status unknown)(/Common)(tmo

Thank You!

  • Hi Nitass,

We cannot modify the password because of MCPD cannot connect? Any idea on MCPD?

  • Just to clarify, you should not be using tmsh to try to change the password, use the Bash shell instead.

  • You don't need MCPD to change the root password. F5 reads it from the UNIX system which is underneath the F5 TMOS. Execute in TMSH

    run util bash
, once in bash prompt, execute the second command to update root account password
    passwd root
. I just changed my root password with MCPD process stopped, no issues. Give it a try.

Still the credit for posting the solution first goes to What Lies Beneath. Sometimes the previous answers don't show up :(. Good luck!
