The question about adding Add-On Key
Hi
I implemented the BIG-IP 8900 LTMs and I ordered Add-On key; F5-ADD-BIG-SSL-8900, about 1 years ago.
The BIG-IP 8900's mission is accelerating the SSL traffic.
However, recelty, I found that I didn't add the Add-On key; F5-ADD-BIG-SSL-8900 at that time.
That is, the BIG-IP 8900 LTMs has worked using the basic license.
And, Now, the warranty of all BIG-IPs has ended.
If I add the Add-On keys add to the BIG-IP LTMs using the configuratio utility,
First, the warranty about the basic license is still ended, and the Add-On Registration Key newly count? or ended like the basic license?
Second, ineruption of the accelerating the SSL 3WHY be occur? and require rebooting or restarting daemons?
Thank you
Chaibin.

To add the add-on key you'll need to reactivate the base license. If you don't have a valid support contract in place, this could fail. See this article for more: https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/7000/700/sol7727.html
Changes to licensing will briefly interrupt traffic flow (including network failover) and drop existing connections while the device’s configuration is reloaded. - nitass

Second, ineruption of the accelerating the SSL 3WHY be occur? and require rebooting or restarting daemons?service will be restarted automatically, so it will interrupt traffic definitely. - Mia_27938

Thank you all!!
Steve,
But I did not apply once the the add-on keys anywhere.
The the add-on keys is not new?
If I order only the base license, adding above add-on keys is possible on the BIG-IP LTMs?
or the above add-on keys is used on another new BIG-IP or VIPRION, instead of BIG-IP 8900 LTMs?
Thank you.
Chaibin.

I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand the question. If the add-on key has not been used, then you can use it, but only on the device it was bought for, not another. In order to add it to a BIG-IP you'll need to reactivate the license I believe, but as you don't have a support contract this may fail. I'd suggest you give F5 support a call and confirm and find a solution with them. - nitass

or the above add-on keys is used on another new BIG-IP or VIPRION, instead of BIG-IP 8900 LTMs?module can be included in base registration key. anyway, if you buy additional module later, add-on key will be used. as i mentioned, license never expires. so, you can re-activate base registration + add-on key.
again, please be noted that re-activation will restart service automatically which will interrupt traffic.
hope this helps. - Mia_27938

Hi nitass.
Hmm..One more question..
You said that the license never expires.
Even though re-activating base registration situation is occur, the BIG-IP can stil accelerate the SSL and use other base LTMs feature?
or The problem occur?

Even though re-activating base registration situation is occur, the BIG-IP can stil accelerate the SSL and use other base LTMs feature?
or The problem occur? what re-activation does is to update service check date in /config/bigip.license. if you do not have active support contract, the service check date won't be updated (but re-activation still can be done). the service check date is used to determine if you are eligible to upgrade software or not (detail is in the sol Steve has given below).
sol7727: License activation may be required prior to software upgrade
https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/7000/700/sol7727.html
license never expires (in case of production license, not evaluation/trail license). that means your bigip still functions even not having active support contract. - Mia_27938
