SNMPv3 EngineID

BIG-IP Version 9.4.8 385.0

Hotfix HF2 Edition (Active/Standby Pair)

Within the file /config/net-snmp/snmpd.conf is there any technical reason why the "oldEngineID" field can not be user defined.

Is it required that an active/standby pair each have a unique "oldEngineID"?

I'm not buying what sol6821 states: This solution states that, "Systems configured to use SNMP v3 are required to have a unique SNMP engine ID. If the systems do not have a unique SNMP engine ID, SNMP v3 will not function properly."

Thanks,

Rob
