Sizing an ASM appliance
Hello guys,
Hope anyone could help me with this.
I need to size an ASM appliance which accomplishes to the requirements of a customer, but I have no knowledge about how to gather information from the client in order to choose he best suitable appliance. I mean, I would like to know which parameters must be considered when sizing an ASM hardware platform. At this point, is there any tool (better whether it is recommended by F5) to measure such values?
Moreover, I would like to know about key questions to ask to the client in order to determine the exactly requirement he needs to accomplish.
Thanks in advance for the given attention and support.
Regards,

Hi Jmanya, the ASM is just an additional module added to your LTM. But this module needs lots of processing power as it does L7 filtering / inspection.
Main point to consider is the load received by the appliance. Under heavy load, smaller boxes will max on CPU even though the throughput is below the box limitation.
I recommend running a trail version of the ASM and perform a load test on your site. That should give you an idea of the resources used.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hello, Santosh,
Thanks for your answer.
Maybe, is it better or more advisable to deploy ASM in Standalone mode?
Thanks
