Sharepoint 2007 with a twist

We are in the process of setting up a sharepoint 2007 enviornment that would be load balanced through the F5. I have the documentation for setting it up.

http://www.f5.com/pdf/deployment-guides/f5-sharepoint07-dg.pdf

What they want to do is setup up 3 virtual servers. The first one will have two WFE's that the users would connect to see to see the content. Now here is where it gets tricky.

The second one will one WFE that will allow specific users to go in and edit content.

The third one will be for the crawler.

The first part looks like I can use the deployment guide to set up but what about the other two. I have searched the site but have not seen anything on those. Would they be set up pretty much the same way ?

Thanks

  • Hello shawn306,

I understand what "they want to do", but I don't understand why? First of course is, permissions for who can edit things is defined withing SharePoint at a number of levels. The URLS that SharePoint uses is controlled by Alternate Access Mappings. The server used as the primary target for crawls is defined in the Central Admin within SharePoint.

The only way to allow folks to go in and edit content is to give them permission to do that either at the document, document library or site collection level. You mind providing a little more detail, such as the URL structure and stuff like that? It might help in trying to pin down what you are wanting to accomplish. How many physical servers or VM's are in your SharePoint Farm?
