Setup RDP for MAC using RDP webtop

Hi Guys, I know this has been asked many times however I am having real trouble with this and is it essential that I somehow get this to work.

So for windows RDP it works great however for MAC RDP it doesn't (I have enabled JAVA client under RDP section also I have turned on VDI & Java Support in VIP), every time I attempt to make a RDP connection from MAC I get "initialized.... then says connection successful .... then error java bound out of memory and finally closing ..." (all this happening very quickly but I managed to capture it using video) this is the end.

I have already logged a call with F5, their response is really slow and according to them my policy works great at their lab but not for me.

I have tried this on from MAC 10.7.5 and latest maverick not success.

Workaround I have right now is if MAC client trys to connect they will establish a network or VPN sort of connect then use RDP client from MAC to RDP to the destination, I am trying to avoid that if it is possible ??

Please also note that my policy checkes for OS.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

  • Java is a pain, but the only way to get this working on the Mac. Apple is fond of disabling older versions of java. Do you have the latest Java installed from java.com? I've seen some applications need the Apple java version (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572). Also, Safari and Firefox will support java apps, but Chrome is still a 32bit app on the Mac and java won't run correctly.

  • which tmos version are you using? there have been some remarks about java rdp client with mac not working if the mac can't resolve its own hostname. search devcentral for java rdp they probably turn up, hamish (sp) wrote about it.

  • Had look at the old article is it mentions to add 127.0.0.1 domain name to /etc/hosts. I added it and seems to be working fine now.

Just wanted to add few troubleshooting steps regarding this. This is if you have an issue using RDP webtop on MAC:
  • Did you ever get this working via the Application Access>>Remote Desktops link? I'm running into this issue as we speak and it is making me curse MACs.
  • Hi, no, never got around to work on this. Also till then I have upgraded our F5 firmware to 11.x, I think before I was using 10.x so upgraded version might have helped?
