Send BIGIP email alerts with plain SMTP port 25 without auth?

Hi Guys

Can f5 send alerts without authentication and by using port TCP 25 without TLS?

I have it working with this config using Gmail with TLS but the customer only has an SMTP server with port 25 and cannot use TLS.

mailhub=smtp.gmail.com:587

UseSTARTTLS=yes

UseTLS=yes

AuthUser=email-account@gmail.com

AuthPass=<<thepassword>>

Also like I have added the config the password is in clear text, can we encrypt it in some way?

  • Yes indeed! F5 can send alerts of any kind. However, what determines the DELIVERY or whether authentication is required or not, is the mail server receiving the alert. So, F5 doesn't care how you send the alert ( authenticated or not ), it is the receiving mail server that determines how he wants the mail to arrive which then determines the mode in which F5 sends it ( authenticated or unauthenticated )

      So I’m thinking the server needs to be an open relay? But I don’t think most people are using those in their enterprise networks.
