I not aware of any known issue as you say. You should be able to ping any self IP, as long is correctly configured.

 

As per F5 recommendation, you should have a floating and 2 non-floating IPs for every vlan, when you have an HA pair. Can you ping from one device to the other, using the non-floating IPs?
