rewriting URL

I have an http VIP (vip1.test.com) that points to an http pool. the problem is that the pool members (server1, server2 and server3) return their servernam as part or the URL. The application team does not know how to change this behaviour. My feeling is that I could write an iRule that rewrites the response to replace the server1-3.test.com with vip1.test.com.

 

 

Two questions:

 

1) Can this be done?

 

2) How would I get started as this is a bit overwhelming....
