Repair and Uninstall fail (ver. 1.2.0.579)

Got the new file downloaded and attempted to install. It doesn't appear to have an 'update' function so I selected 'Repair' instead, however this fails. On the RMS, it fails because the SQL logfile already exists, as it should since the product is still running, and any attempt to do the same from the management server on which the service is actually running theoretically completes, but no files are actually updated. It boggles my mind that you could release a product, even an only partially supported one, that would require you to completely uninstall and reinstall the product every time there is even a minor update. This environment is very security and change conscious and I can't keep having to re-discover the F5s every time a new version of the MP comes out.

  • Geez, this stupid program won't even uninstall cleanly. It stays listed in the add/remove programs and doesn't remove the database.

We've split the initial post into a new one for tracking purposes. Let me start by saying we're sorry you're having upgrade issues. The product is not perfect and we do everything in our control to make it better. We're grateful for the feedback we get here, to say the least. It helps us get on the right track to fixing issues we may have overlooked and better the product (as a whole) for everyone.

To nail the root of your problems, we have not had explicit update/upgrade support in the past , but as some sort of reassurance, the next release (slated for sometime in the next few days) does include an upgrade path so that you will hopefully not run into issues like this again. Unfortunately this won't help your current situation, but moving forward from this point, you should have no problems upgrading and maintaining your data and discovered devices as well.

As far as your current situation with the uninstall, I'd like to get some info so we can help you get our MP removed. I have a couple of questions: Is this uninstall happening from one of the management servers or the RMS? Can you post the setup.log file located in the c:\program files\f5 networks\management pack\logs\ folder, or email it to ManagementPack(at)f5.com? Can you tell me what version was originally installed and what version you ran "repair" from? This should help us get you up and running again ASAP. Again, sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

    Thanks,
