Remote authentication in Openstack / Neutron / LBaaS environment

Hi all, I need to implement remote authentiaction in an Openstack/Neutron/LBaaS environment - for API calls as well as for administrators. There is in average about 20 API calls per second. Does anyone know of a tested-working solution for this? I am being told that the API user must be admin and must not be authenticated remotely. Is this correct? Our environment - 5250v as vCMP host with several LTM guest instances, version 12.1.3
