Related to FAILOVER

Hi,

I have some questions with FAILOVER, documentation says:

IF VCMP provisioned:

-A unicast static self IP associated with internal (HA recommended.

-The unicast virtual management IP address assigned to the guest. This second one it's strictly necessary? Why can put only HA Interface?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

We run network failover on the self ip in several HA deployment on vCMP enabled guests and it works fine without any issues.

I think that you should test a failover without configuring the unicast mgmt addr and see the results.

Sorry Yann, the correct question is: Why can't just put only HA Interface? Actually works, with only HA vlan, but documentation says HA + MGMT, and i'm finding some logical interpretation for that. Regards!!

Though it's written in the documentation, there is several scenario you can't apply this. For example when running vcmp guests in strict isolation mode. Having the mgmt interfaces in the failover config is a fallback to the self ip communication. Because the heartbeat can fail on the self ip network, having a different secondary network, the network failover is more reliable

  • The second one - MGMT interface is not mandatory. Its more of a redundancy kindof...
