Redirecting 8080 to 4443
This probably pretty simple but I am a new user. I have a pool of servers that use port 4443, and the server team wants me to redirect 8080 to 4443. I have seen the built in rule for 80 to 443 but I cant seem to find a way to do what they are asking me to do. Is this possible? Any assistance on this would be great.

Assuming it's HTTPS over 4443:
when HTTP_REQUEST { HTTP::redirect https://[getfield [HTTP::host] ":" 1]:4443[HTTP::uri] }Create a virtual server listening on 8080, and assign the above iRule. Should take care of it

My 1st thought was why Can't you just create a 2nd vip listening on 8080 and use the same pool (as long as the pool members are set to use port 4443).
But as I read again and see Shaggys response it sounds like the server team wants you to listen for http on 8080 and send to servers over HTTPS port 4443?
If thats what they want then you could create a new vip listeming on HTTP 8080 and create a pool listening on 4443 and add the SSL Profile (Server) server side "sslserver" profile to re-encrypt the HTTP 8080 to HTTPs on 4443
If you just need to redirect all client traffic so they come vack using 4443 Shaggys iRule should work Sorry but its not real clear what you need?

No need to do irule. you just need to create a pool with all memembers listening on port 4443. and then attach that pool to the VIP which is listening on port 8080. the F5 will automatically redirect the traffic from port 8080 to 4443 when it's hitting the VIP.

I'm not saying your wrong but if that is the case then why do we need the iRule for 80 to 443 redirect? I just tried in my situation and using curl (as stated before) it appears to be trying on 8080
I tried using a browser and it doesnt connect

Just an update.. It seems I dont need to redirect 8080 to 4443 at all. Maybe I should have started by saying that this is for Lync and I dont want to use the iApp (atleast not yet). I ended up looking up what those ports are used by, for Lync, and according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx it doesnt appear that 8080 SHOULD be redirected to https:// :4443... They are used for two entirely different purposes.
I still would like to figure out what I am doing wrong with the custom port redirects but I didnt want to waste any of your time. Thanks for all the suggestions and help. It was very beneficial to me if for no other reason than learning more about the F5.

Thanks Mike. We will be using the iApp eventually but this was an emergency migration where we had a Brocade LB possibly failing and just needed the basic LB services it was providing to be moved to the F5. Future plans will have us using the iApp for sure.
