There is a known issue with VE that KVM is only detected properly under RHEL 6.3 and is not detected properly in other KVM scenarios, including OpenStack. The workaround is to place the following in /etc/nova/release on the KVM / nova compute node (and remove the blank lines):
[Nova]
vendor = Red Hat
product = Bochs
package = RHEL 6.3.0 PC
The nova compute service should be restarted at minimum. Might require a reboot of the Nova compute node if restarting nova service doesn’t fix it.
