Patching GTM VE 11.5 with HF4
Disclaimer: New to F5.
I spun up the 11.5 base VM and I'm trying to run the hotfix. I used the 31GB template but I can't update the active boot partition. I shutdown the VM, added an extra drive but I believe I need to create a boot/software partition/volume. I am running the base 11.5.0.0.110.
Can someone steer me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance!

You don't patch the active partition, ever. You install the entire image onto an inactive partition, patch that, then reboot into it. That is how BIGIP does patching. It also means you can fallback to the original partition if the new update does not give you what you want.

You should create another partition, install big-ip base, then install the hotfix.

Agree, Kevin you're supposed to install the entire image to a new volume.
That said, I added a disk and don't know how to install the big-ip base. The installation doesn't seem to find the new disk (HD3). The error message says "failed. (Can't find requested disk HD3)
I thought the install command with the create-volume option would create the volume for me, but it doesn't appear to be the case.

Cannot create a new volume set without a BIGIP image.

but the install status indicates the disk cannot be found.
can you try HD1.x (e.g. HD1.3) instead?

I opened up a case with F5, they were also unsure of why HD3 was not being detected correctly. We deleted the volumes HD3.1 and HD3.2 and installed to HD1.2.
Did not address the issue I was experiencing, but the net effect works.
Thank you all for your help.

The installation process can be confusing. From my experience, when you are installing/upgrading, you get asked to select/put in a volume "name", which it seems to ought to be actually just a number, say "3", and the new volume then gets created as "HD1.3". Do you remember what you actually put in there as the name of the new volume?
