Node connection limit and alert

I have configured a virtual server with four pool members. I would like to monitor the number of the connection for each member. If the number of connection reach 1000, can I send email alert and make the pool member disable?
  • Hi Daniel,

If you have equal connections going to all four pool members then you could simply track the total connections on the virtual and block from there rather then disable a pool member.

The irule I had in mind is the following

    http://devcentral.f5.com/wiki/default.aspx/iRules/HTTPSessionLimit.html

    or

    http://devcentral.f5.com/wiki/default.aspx/iRules/LimitConnectionsFromClient.html

For alerts you can go to the following

SOL3667: Configuring SNMP trap alerts to send email notifications

    https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/3000/600/sol3667.html?sr=392739

SOL3664: Configuring BIG-IP to deliver locally-generated email messages

    https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/3000/600/sol3664.html

And if you want to generate a message based on a custom log event, refer to SOL3727:

    SOL3727: Configuring custom SNMP traps

    https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/3000/700/sol3727.html

    I hope this helps

You could configure this by setting connection limits on the pool members under Local Traffic >> Pools >> Pool name >> Members >> member IP:port >> Connection Limit.
