Hi,

I'm very new to iControl. We run a couple of BigIps in our network. While others are working fine, when I try to access the iControlPortal.cgi on one of them, i get

Error while parsing SOAP XML payload: no element found

We're using big2400 bigip 4.2PTF-06 BigIP Kernel 4.2PTF -06 Build 6

Any ideas whats happening? I've intialised the iControlPortal from config/setup menu.

Additional information from the httpd logs:

[Tue Sep 6 13:46:35 2005] [error] [client 199.40.75.44] FastCGI: server "/usr/local/www/iControl/iControlPortal.cgi" stderr: iControlPortal::registerHandlers() : num_handlers(4)

Also noted that other BigIPs with different kernel versions do not have this problem. Is this a kernel version issue?
  • The only issue I'm aware that could be related to this is an issue with Apache's support of Keep-Alive sessions. I believe that this will only be an issue with .NET clients? What are you using for client software?

    If it is .NET, a workaround server configuration setting is mentioned near the bottom of this thread

  • Thanks Joe (my first account got crapped out trying to login, don't know why, so using another one now).

    Basically, I've logged a case with F5.

    Here’s my update on the case Case C223243

    I checked the wsdl directory and couldn't find ITCMSystem.Failover. Please confirm if an upgrade of my bigip kernel version will also update with the new ITCMSystem.Failover methods in iControl?

    Current : BIG-IP Kernel 4.2PTF-06 Build6

    Upgrade : BIG-IP Kernel 4.6.2 Build117

    I don't really know what version of iControl am I running but I'm guessing an upgrade to BIP 4.6.2 might cause the ITCMSystem.Failover methods to be available.

    By the way, is F5 support always so slow on their site? They haven't responded at all.

  • The Failover interface was moved from the LocalLB module into the System module in the BIG-IP v4.5 release. So, if you are upgrading to 4.6.2 then you will absolutely have the ITCMSystem.Failover interface available.

    v4.2 is a very old release (~2001) and if you could upgrade to 4.6.2 that would be best as the iControl subsysem was reworked and optimized for the v4.5 release.
