Migration to new hardware

Hi, Can someone point me to the best way to do this: We currently have a pair of old F5s running 10.2.4. We have now purchased a pair of 2000's running 11.5.3

I have configured the networking, active/passive failover, etc on the new F5s but now am trying to find a way to move the Virtual servers, pools, iRules, etc from the old system to the new one. I have looked at bigpipe and tmsh to export/import the configs but the formats look different.

What is the recommended procedure for moving the Local Traffic configs and not changing any of the System config? Hopefully without just having to re-enter all the details manually.

Thanks,

Simon Price.

  • Upgrade the old hardware to 11.x version then create an archive .ucs file and try importing to the new 2000 device.
  • Hello,

If your old hardware support v11, try to upgrade to the highest supported v11.x version. Then, you can do a backup of your configuration and you can use a procedure to re-import the configuration in another hardware : https://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/solutions/public/14000/900/sol14906.html

this Kb article describe important things when moving configuration to a different plateform. You can also see that F5 does not support officially a way to move configuration between dissimilar hardwares. They recommand using the SCF method to achieve such a goal.

Unfortunately, we need to keep the old system as it is on version 10. Any ideas how to do it without upgrading to V11?

The best would be then to install the new hardware in v10, migrate the configuration from the old device to the new one, then upgrade the new device in v11. The issue with your requirement is that v10 and v11 configuration files are really differents, there is many changes (for example http class)
