CNAME is for alias websites under a global DNS name. You need to have the DNS pointing to the A record (main url) CNAME would be testsite.mainsite.com for instance. DNS will need to propagate then user access should resume, until then I.P. address will be access to the site. You can push a DNS update as well if time is a factor.

 

Also, I feel there is some confusion. Virtual Server name has no bearing on the DNS record pointing to it.
