LTM Path Check monitoring for outbound internet VS

Hi All,

I'm trying to configure a monitor that tests outbound connectivity through our ISP links. I understand this to be a transparent monitor that goes through the default gateway and reaches the end host.

I've configured a simple HTTP/TCP/HTTPS monitor with a GET request to a website, however the alias IP address is left blank, as I want to do this purely using URLs. When trying to apply this to the pool, it fails.

I've had a look at a path check monitor using TCP Echo. The diagram shows exactly what I'm trying to do where the TCP Echo Monitor is reaching out to www.f5.com: https://techdocs.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/ltm-monitors-reference-12-0-0/2.html#unique_1389682868

However the TCP Monitor doesn't have any option to use URLs.

Can anyone please advise how this should be configured?

The objective is to monitor ISP links by reaching out to a well known website like Ebay, facebook etc.

Thanks!
