LTM device group IP changes

I changed the Management interface IPs for an active/standby pair of LTMs. Each is now looking for the old IP address of the other. How do I update that?

  • If you originally built the device trust with the Management IPs, you need to delete and recreate the device trust.

    Please: choose carefully

    For a non-Viprion or non-VCMP system:

Resetting device trust across all devices

Impact of procedure: F5 recommends that you perform this procedure during a maintenance window. This procedure causes the current device to lose connectivity with all other BIG-IP devices. Depending on the device group and traffic group configuration, the connectivity loss may result in an unintentional Active-Active condition that causes a traffic disruption.

Log in to the Configuration utility.

Set the standby device in the device group to Force Offline to prevent a standby device from going active.

Navigate to Device Management > Device Trust > Local Domain.

    Click Reset Device Trust.

Select the Generate new self-signed authority option.

    Click Update (or Next).

    Click Finished.

Repeat this procedure for each device in the device group.

Note: When you enable the Force Offline option on a chassis system, the TMM interfaces remain configured until the unit is rebooted. If the chassis is rebooted while Force Offline is enabled, the system marks all TMM interfaces as Uninitialized or Missing. This behavior is by design; the system will not attempt to initialize and bring up TMM interfaces while the system is in the offline state.

Note: Standby devices that were set to Force Offline should be set to Release Offline after performing the procedure. For more information, refer to K15122: Overview of the Force Offline option.
