LTM configuration
Hello,
I have been requested to consider the following possibility for the F5. Consider two ethernet interfaces on an F5. BOTH interfaces belong to the SAME subnet. One interface is connected to a farm of apache servers. The other interface is connected to a farm of hosts, who are trying to access the apache server via the F5. Basically, the need is to have the F5 working as a bridge, passing also through ASM rules.
Q1. Is this configuration possible ? Q2. Definitely ASM will need to be applied.
If the above is possible (which I do not think is a good idea), can somebody advise pls as how this can be done ?
Thank you.

The F5 can act as a L2 switch, but depending on the model this could cause high CPU utilization as on some models the L2 traffic is handled by TMM.

I don't know if you can get the traffic to pass through ASM rules though. However, even to begin to get this working, the Apache servers must be connected to one switch and the "farm of hosts" to a separate switch, and the ONLY common connection can be the F5.

Hello,
Definitely switches will need to be connected on both sides of the F5, in order to have various farms of servers hosts and servers. It would be interesting to know, if somebody has tried it, that any traffic can pass though the ASM. Just a stupid question: is TMM a separate module / license ?

tmm is where the "real" BigIP/F5 code runs. We don't have APM, but I would assume it also runs under TMM. I know LTM and GTM do. If you ssh to the F5 and you get to the Linux shell and do a "ps -ef | grep tmm" you should see one tmm process for each core/cpu your box has.
