Looking for OID/MIB documentation

Hi folks,

I am looking for documetation about the various MIB objects, counters etc. I have downloaded the MIBs for my LTM but there does not seem to be any good documentation on the MIBs.

I have just defined what I want to monitor and what information I want to see and the list is quite long. Now I am checking for each item of information I want to see if there is a MIB object for it or if I have to do some scripting. To check MIB object availability I cannot believe that I have to go through the 7000 some objects with their very short descriptions in the MIB itself.

Other vendors offer extensive documentation on their MIBs or have loads of best practice articles or case studies summing up which counters to watch for certain information. Cannot seem to find something like this for F5 BigIP LTM.

Any ideas anybody?

  • I'm not sure if this will be of any help but there is a Solution posted that says it provides an overview of the MIB's:

Here are a few more solutions on the MIBs:

The 10.1 TMOS Management Guide has some useful info as well:

The solutions basically provide the same detail that are in the MIBs themselves. The mgmt guide has a bit more descriptive info. You might try providing a few examples of what the MIB contains, what you'd like to see in a more complete document and/or a best practice guide and an example of what other vendors provide that you find useful.
