Loggin question

I have setup SysLog to send email to myself when a certing event gets loged. But the problem I am running into is when I log the event through the rule I get some extra special chars that is causeing the program to not send the log output. Is there a way in the Rule to stop from being send to Syslog, this is what is causeing my problem. Thanks
